Analysing Mendelssohn's 'Elijah'

Run in a similar way to the online analysis of ‘Bach’s St John Passion’ last term, Calum will take us through the operatic oratorio ‘Elijah’. It is, without doubt, Mendelssohn’s masterpiece and follows such a vivid biblical narrative. Dramatic episodes include: the resurrection of a death youth; the contest of the gods in which Jehovah consumes an offered sacrifice in a column of fire while frantic prayers by the prophets of the god Baal failed; the bringing of rain to parched Israel through Elijah’s prayers; the prosecution of Elijah by Queen Jezebel; his retirement to the desert; his vision of God appearing and his ascension on a fiery chariot into heaven.

Please book yourself a space via We Got Tickets. This platform is being used for both payment and registration purposes until the end of September. The cost is either £20 for the September/October 2020 programme or £10 per individual event. If you have already paid up for the programme, please choose ‘priority admission’.
